Subjective and Objective Claims

A subjective claim, is an opinion someone may have or their personal beliefs on a certain subject.  Subjective claims cannot be proved right or wrong.  Objective claims on the other hand can be proven right or wrong.  Objective claim is usually something that is either true or false.  An example that I have heard of a subjective claim was "Kobe Bryant is better than Lebron James"  This statement cannot be proven true or false.  Many people have their own opinions and beliefs on each player.  There is not any proven evidence that one player is better than the other.  If a person states a specific stat of one of the players, for example "Lebron scored 40 points against the Lakers."  This would be a fact because it actually happend.  This leads into an example of an objective claim.  Another example of an objective claim may be "The president of the United States is Barack Obama"  This is an objective claim because it is a proven fact that he is our president.  In basic terms, Subjective cannot be proven true or false, and Objective is a proven fact.

  1. when I read your blog I thought you did a great job of making it clear and concise.I enjoyed the way you described the definition of both a Subjective claim and an objective claim. You made it easy for the reader to understand the definition and the point you were trying to make. Thus, making it understandable for people who are not familiar with the original definition of the Subjective and Objective claims. I enjoyed reading the examples that you came up with. I feel as though they both classify then definition in a positive light making the definition and example come to life. My favorite one was the Obama example because it was so simple to understand yet it come complete sense.

  2. Your blog was very well written and I enjoyed thoroughly reading it. I could relate to the examples you used for each (subjective and objective). You made it easy to comprehend for people who don't understand the difference between the two of them. You made your descriptions of what an objective claim and also your subjective claim really clear and to the point. I agree with both of the examples you used in your description. Even though I am a hard core Laker fan and you sort of talked down on Kobe Bryant. You are just a Laker hater young man. I know this.

  3. Sean I believe you did an excellent job defining the two terms, objective and subjective claims. The example you used was something many people could relate to so it was easy to understand. Also, you did a great job flowing from one example to the next using the same story but defining both terms individually. It showed how the two definitions are so different. You also went beyond the one example and gave a second for even more clarification then wrapped it up in the end with going over in simply terms what the two terms meant again. Great job!
